Dr. Eyal Privman – "The Paradox of Evolution of Altruism"

Place: Libira, Hanamal 26, Haifa

Department: Information Systems

altruismDarwin explained the evolution of species by means of natural selection: every organism struggles against its competitors to survive and pass its genes to the next generation. Therefore, cooperation and mutual aid are an evolutionary paradox. How did they come about in evolution? This question led Darwin on a quest that begins in the 19th century with the surprising help of the ants of South England. Today, the genomics revolution reveals the answer in the genes of ants and other social insects.
